Access to decent housing and its challenges in the development agenda: The case of Mexico
Abstract
The purpose of this work was to analyze the current conditions of access to decent housing, its production and the challenges it entails for Mexican families. The research is justified as indispensable in the perspective of the development agenda of the United Nations and the Mexican government. The hypothesis is that housing production has been a challenge in which governments have fallen short in its achievement. The methods used are qualitative and quantitative respectively. The data come from the following sources: Instituto del Fondo Nacional de la Vivienda para los Trabajadores, United Nations-Habitat, Fondo de la Vivienda del Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development 2006-2022, Secretaría de Desarrollo Agrario, Territorial y Urbano 2020, the National Housing Survey 2020. The results show that, although there is an increased production of housing, especially of social interest, access to housing its limited by economic and social factors. It has concluded that there is a strategic need for governments, companies and civil society to explore alternatives for decent housing.
