Monocentric and Polycentric Incidences of Residential Urbanism in the Fragmentation of Tampico, Mexico (1960-2015)
Abstract
The metropolitan expansion of Tampico observes a complex and diffuse urban panorama where the presence and proliferation of residential urban fragments manifest a diffuse image and of spatial fracture on the periphery. Using landscape ecology as a measurement instrument, the effect that these urbanizations generate between 1960 and 2015 is analyzed by obtaining the fragmentation index that evidence two different periods of urban growth: firstly; as a monocentric compact growth towards the 1990s, and secondly as a growth with a fragmented trend towards the year 2015 with polycentric characteristics.
