Knowledge specialization and regional economic growth: the case of the Mexican automotive industry
Abstract
This work analyzed how the automotive industry resorts to the specialization of knowledge and, therefore, contributes to the economic growth of the regions of Mexico. The current context of the renegotiation of the Trade Agreement between Mexico, the United States, Canada, and the review of supply chains to ensure on-time production. The specialization of knowledge, in addition to the institutional arrangements to attract investment since they play active roles in said growth. The methodology used was fundamentally descriptive, since it uses the analysis of documents, facts, and uses the analysis and interpretation of the data. The data comes from the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), the National Institute of Geography and Statistics and Data México. The results show the importance of said industry for the entire country and especially for various entities in the country. It was concluded that there was a need to deepen industrial development policies in order to attract investment in this area.
