Maternity in Mexican legislation: A vision from women's labor rights
Abstract
Safe motherhood, health care for the mother and the survival of the newborn are an essential part of life, as well as fundamental to the work environment and the productivity of women. Therefore, maternity protection is a labor law that has been stipulated in universal human rights treaties and as a result, laws on maternity protection at work have been enacted in almost every country in the world. The objective of this article is to conduct a bibliographic review to know and analyze the main legal provisions of the maternity protection legislation in Mexico. In this documentary article, the method used focused on the review of various databases (Scopus, Redalyc, Scielo and Web of Sciencie). As a result, it was obtained that in the last twenty years improvements have been made in the laws that protect maternity, assigning longer periods of rest during postpartum. It is concluded that in Mexico, despite these advances, sometimes it may not be enough to allow the adequate growth of women in the work context and in their realization as a mother.
