Instrument to assess the availability of infrastructure at a tourist attraction
Abstract
Infrastructure plays a crucial role as part of a tourist destination's amenities, providing tourists with a meaningful experience during their stay. This study aimed to design and validate an instrument to assess the availability and condition of a tourist attraction's infrastructure, in order to identify structural gaps that impact sustainable local development and the tourist experience. The research employed a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive-exploratory approach. The instrument was developed in three stages: a literature review was conducted, followed by an evaluation by five experts in tourism management and development, and content validity was calculated using Aiken's V coefficient. Finally, McDonald's Omega reliability was validated with 43 observers—undergraduate students of tourism management and development—considering the dimensions of Transportation, Communication, Health, Energy, and Risks, with responses on a Likert scale. A pilot test was conducted with direct observation of the tourist attraction. The McDonald's Omega result of 0.934 indicates that the instrument is reliable for application. It is concluded that the instrument for evaluating the availability and quality of the infrastructure of a tourist attraction is reliable and valid.
