Abstract
This paper analyzes the prevailing social, economic, and environmental situation among rural communities in Mexico, particularly those whose survival is threatened in the medium and long term. The methodology was descriptive, and the data used came from the Mexican National Population Council, the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy, the Mexican National Institute of Statistics and Geography, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, and the World Bank; all data is collected annually. A key finding is that the problems facing rural regions in Mexico require coordinated initiatives, policies, and actions among residents, the government, and businesses. The conclusions of this paper are that there is a need to support rural communities through public investment, the creation of mechanisms to foster a sense of belonging, and opportunities to improve the material living conditions of the population. The present work is structured as follows: The first part provides an introduction, which includes a literature review. The second part outlines the methods employed. The third part addresses the results and discussion. Finally, the conclusions are highlighted.
