Abstract
Innovation is a determining factor for any country, it drives the development of the economy and has a positive impact on society. This progression requires the public and private sectors to create an adequate environment to the good performance and improvement of the internal innovation activities. In this framework, the innovation capabilities of Mexico and Russia are compared by examining the Global Competitiveness Index results, published by the World Economic Forum (WEF), to analyze the changes experienced by both countries between 2008-2018. It is concluded that, despite starting the decade in relatively separate positions, the distance between the two nations was minimal by 2018, with Russia being the best performer.
