Collective efficiency in the cluster of auto parts sector in Matamoros, Tamaulipas - Mexico
Abstract
In Mexico, the automotive activity is considered a strategic sector due to its contribution to different economic indicators such as job creation, exports, regional competitiveness, human resource development, and even because of the transversal effect it exerts on the rest of the economic sectors. The aim of this study was to determine the Collective Efficiency (CE) of the auto parts sector (AS) in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. To that end, the businesses agglomeration in the AS of the municipality was first identified through the location coefficient test. A shift share analysis was then conducted in order to track the evolution of the employment over the 2004-2014 period. The Collective Efficiency Index (CEI) obtained for the AS in Matamoros has a high value, which indicates that the analyzed businesses take full advantage of the opportunities that their geographic location has to offer them.
