Abstract
Using a binary discrete choice model, this article aims to determine the effects of owner’s motivation for launching a micro-enterprise on the likelihood of having a family micro-enterprise in Mexico. We use the National Survey on Micro-Enterprise 2012 collected by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography. Results show that the main reasons that Mexican entrepreneurs have for launching a family micro-enterprise are to improve and contribute to the family income, and that married men are more likely to start a family micro-enterprise than women or single men.
