Translation and adaptation of an instrument to measure nurse job satisfaction
Abstract
This article adapts an instrument that measures nurses' job satisfaction in the Mexican context. The readapted instrument was the Overall Job Satisfaction (OJS) Questionnaire (Warr, Cook, & Wall, 1979). The questionnaire was translated and adapted to the Spanish language by the back-translation method. The translated version was evaluated in a final sample of 293 Mexican nurses. Internal consistency and construct validity were examined, and the psychometric properties of the translated instrument were good. The obtained results showed that the translated OJS consistently measures the concept of interest for the study. The translated OJS was easily understood by the respondents and did not present difficulty during the interviews. The Spanish version of the OJS is a valid instrument to assess nurses' job satisfaction in Mexican culture.
