Abstract

The Mexican prairie dog (Cynomys mexicanus) is an endangered species that is endemic to the northeastern Mexican states of Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi. Soil texture was characterized from samples collected from 21 colonies throughout this geographic range. All colonies examined were found in loamy soils. The majority (>60\%) of colonies were found in silt loam soils low in clay, medium in sand, and medium to high in silt.
