ResumenMale university students, in the last decade have significantly increased alcohol consumption, a behavior that in most cases is conditioned by the beliefs that are acquired from the family nucleus, strengthening itself in the socio-cultural context and university environment where they interact. The objective of the article was to explore beliefs about alcohol consumption from the perspective of male university students. A non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out, with a qualitative approach, a qualitative question guide was used, the data source was the focus group, the population of interest consisted of male university students aged between 18 and 22 years old, the sampling was theoretical, being able to determine the beliefs that condition the consumption of intoxicating beverages in young people, being related to four categories that were beliefs, motives, damages due to consumption and accessibility, each one with its respective subcategories and living codes. The conclusions may be taken as a basis for future research and for the implementation of specific Nursing care that contributes to limiting, reducing or eradicating alcohol consumption behavior.es_ES
