Abstract

Since 2024, the tourism sector in Mexico has experienced significant growth, consolidating its position as a source of employment and well-being, contributing to poverty reduction in the country. Specifically, in that same year, the island of Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico, positioned itself as the main cruise destination in the Caribbean. It should be noted that, in this traditionally male-dominated sector, women have managed to stand out by assuming relevant roles and performing functions, thus promoting changes in this environment. Therefore, the objective was to analyze the effect of financial knowledge and attitude on the financial well-being of women working in the tourism sector in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico. The research was conducted with a cross-sectional time dimension and an exploratory, non-experimental design. By applying 146 surveys to women working in this tourism sector, the hypotheses proposed were tested through partial least squares structural equation modeling. The findings reveal that both financial knowledge and attitude have a positive and statistically significant effect on financial well-being. In conclusion, it was found that financial attitude statistically significantly mediates the effect of knowledge on financial well-being.
