Capacity management problems at container terminals
Abstract
Capacity management is a continuous process focused on optimizing resource utilization to meet current demand. In container terminals, it involves tactical decision-making and operational optimization, including forecasting ship arrivals, scheduling truck appointments, determining tariffs, and coordinating personnel and equipment. The goal is to balance available and required capacity to avoid under- or overutilization of resources while adhering to service level agreements. This chapter presents a comprehensive synthesis of existing research on capacity management problems at container terminals to shape the future research agenda.
