Abstract

Space sustainability is a challenge that goes beyond conflicts in space; it must also be taken into account within the processes that are done on Earth, such as the manufacture of mechanisms. The literature indicates that it is not enough to take care of carbon footprint; the social impact of these processes must also be considered, with special attention to the so-called emerging economies. Therefore, this chapter aims to analyse possible paths for social sustainability practices in the supply chain of the Mexican space sector. This exploratory approach was carried out on the basis of a conceptual analytical methodology, intended to specify variables and put forward a theoretical model. This paper contributes to fill the gap in the literature on social issues in downstream suppliers in the emerging Mexican space sector. A measurement model based on work in emerging economies is proposed for the evaluation of social sustainability in the supply chain of the Mexican space sector.
