Social vulnerability and its evaluation in Mexico based on a composite index
Abstract
Social vulnerability is a multidimensional concept that is used to denote the conditions of disadvantage or risk of social groups in accessing better opportunities for integration and upward social mobility. This article aims to evaluate the vulnerability conditions in Mexico based on a composite index in 2010 and 2020; To construct the index, a descriptive multivariate method was used through principal components analysis. After Dalenius-Hodges esterification, the results indicate that vulnerability decreased in a large part of the national territory; However, in the northwest and southeast conditions persist. It concludes by addressing the problem in municipalities with high vulnerability as particular case studies, with the intention of knowing what factors continue to reproduce the phenomenon.
