Bibliometric mapping of the circular economy in industry and services: innovation and trends
Abstract
The circular economy represents a paradigm shift from the linear model of “take, make, dispose” to a more sustainable framework characterized by minimizing waste, reuse and recycling. Therefore, this document examines the evolution of research on circular economy and innovation in the industrial and services sector, applying a bibliometric analysis, in order to determine the most relevant sector and the existing gaps in research. Specialized databases were used, where 499 documents related to the industrial sector and 349 to the services sector were identified. Relevant findings are identified: i) Annual scientific production shows an increasing trend, with a notable increase in publications on “industry”; ii) the term innovation stands out as dominant, followed by “circular economy” in industry and finally, sustainability in services, highlighting the different thematic priorities. In conclusion, this analysis reinforces the growing trend in the study of circular economy and innovation in scientific research, especially in industry; while identifying opportunities for expansion in the services sector, with a particular focus on the integration of sustainability and marketing concepts.
