Abstract

Mexico is currently one of the main countries in the world with the highest migratory flow, and the border region with the United States is home to the majority of this population, the health conditions of migrants are generally not adequate, including those of a sexual nature, knows that there are some sexual risk behaviors such as the inappropriate or null use of condoms in this population. The aim of this work is to test the transition model of condom use in migrants from the northeast border of Mexico. The study was correlated model testing design, with a sample of 302 migrants, a general linear model was used for statistical analysis. The motivations for sex, sexual communication with potential partner, selfefficacy for safe sex and coping with sexual risk were found to have statistical significance within the model (F[4, 297] = 23.35, p<.001), the model explains 22.9% of the variance. According to the results, only two constructs of the model were predictive for the condom use. This work is considered important in the field of sexual behavior and the sexual health of migrants and allows acquiring knowledge to carry out future research approaches in this population.
