Governance in higher education in Mexico: Case of the autonomous university of tamaulipas
Abstract
Universities in Mexico in recent years have focused their efforts on coexisting with the State and the public policies implemented to regulate their performance. The purpose of the document is to characterize governance in higher education in Mexico, through the analysis of a public university, the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas. The above was carried out through qualitative research with a case study strategy, documentary review and subsequently some in-depth interviews with key investigators of the areas in which the Institution is located (North, Center and South of the State). of Tamaulipas). Among the results, it is evident that there is a need for governability on the part of the State to all public institutions in the country, especially related to social policies. Likewise, the different programs created by the Government, seek to professionalize teachers, so that they achieve research-teaching, technological development and innovation capacities and with social responsibility, they are articulated and consolidated in academic bodies. It is concluded that State intervention in universities has allowed to establish homogeneous quality standards for their performance and in terms of research, impacts not so favorably according to the results obtained.
