Academic Assessment: Implementation of Standardized Assessments in Higher Education Institutions
Abstract
The analysis of the implementation of standardized assessments in Higher Education Institutions is a topic of great relevance in the current academic field. These assessments, designed to measure student performance in a uniform and objective manner, are intended to provide useful data for inform educational decision making and improve the quality of learning. The objective of this study was to analyze the results of the departmental exams applied to the students of the medical surgeon degree (Autonomous University of Tamaulipas-Mexico) by semester, subject and academy, in order to evaluate their academic performance and identify possible areas improvement in the educational process. It is a quantitative non-experimental study applied to 312 medical students to analyze the correlation between the average obtained in the exams and the passing rate. The results show a general trend of improvement in academic performance during the first semesters of the program; However, specific subjects are identified that require continuous attention and development, as well as the implementation of effective strategies to support the academic success of students and prepare them optimally for their future medical practice, concluding that standardized assessments strengthen their academic performance.
