Limitations of female research in higher education in Mexico. A gender problem?
Abstract
In the environment of the 21st century, called the century of knowledge and information, it is appropriate to reflect on the social and collective imagination, the incidences of gender as a cause of inequalities at educational levels, included as a subject of research. The objective of this study was to analyze the gender perspective to determine if discrimination against women’s research work persists, if there is progress based on the recognition of their rights. The methodology used is descriptive, with a bibliographic-documentary study. The results show that another aspect comes from the unequal distribution of domestic work in the family environment and that subsists in the various behavioral roles in which education levels predominantly intervene, in addition to limitations that make it difficult for the incorporation of professionals who enter in scientific and humanistic research, inherently “masculinized” areas, such as exact sciences, physics, engineering and architecture. It is concluded that it is necessary to propose programs that allow the opening of spaces for women in “masculinized” areas of knowledge, with the purpose of achieving gender equity, that is, respecting differences, so that women and men have equal access. to opportunities in various areas of research.
