Abstract
This research aimed to characterize the usability of information technologies and the level of HEI academics' skills in Tamaulipas. It had a quantitative, non experimental descriptive design, and the results showed that academics have been gradually incorporating some technological tools. However, they do not have documents or certifications that guarantee their knowledge and mastery. The final reflections revolve around the speed at which there has been a transition from an in-person work culture to virtuality in the last two years and the questioning about whether this event has caused to widen the digital gap in the collegiate activity of university academics and, therefore, define the new objects of study.
