Abstract

Changes to the bromatological characteristics of the fresh pulp of orange (FPO) were evaluated when it is stored in piles in the outdoors. Under environmental climatic conditions of the month of May, when temperatures range from the 32 to 38° C and relative humidity from 75 to 80%. The piles were exposed to environmental conditions during 7 days, during the storage time, three samples were consistently taken from a depth from 30 to 40 cm. The samples were weighed, dried (60°C) and stored until analyses were performed. The proximal analysis was in the Laboratory of Animal Nutrition of the FIC-UAT. The data from the variables measured, as dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF), hemicellulose, cellulose, lignin and ash were analyzed by means of ANOVA, using a completely randomized design. The results indicated that DM increased (P<0.01) from 210 to 310 g kg-1, during the storage period, meanwhile, CP remained relatively constant (P>0.05) during days 1 to 5, CP increased during days 6 and 7, during which time, CP values were greater (P<0.01). Content of OM, NDF, ADF, hemicellulose, cellulose, lignin and ash, as measured remained unchanged and were similar (P>0.05) during the storage period. It is concluded that the FOP stored in piles up to 7 days, had no significant variations bromatological content involving its use in the feeding of ruminants.
